What We Do
Peninsula Ear Care are situated in Peverell, Plymouth in Devon and operating within the city as well as the surrounding areas of Cornwall and the South Hams.
The principal service is ear wax removal, this will reduce pain and often restores hearing which has been lost following wax blockage. The use of microsuction is quick clean and far more effective than traditional techniques known as irrigation or syringing. The team are professionally trained and highly skilled NHS employees. The practitioners are able to assess and treat a wide variety of ear conditions including those requiring prescription medications.
Peninsula Ear Care do not use or recommend syringing, this follows NHS recommendations. Microsuction is the safest method of removing foreign bodies, wax and infective matter from the ears and greatly reduces mess and pain following treatment. Some centres promote alternative treatments including candling, but the NHS doesn’t support this; as there is no physical benefit and there is the risk of harm, including burns.
Traditional syringing has the potential to cause damage to the ear lining as well as the possibility to damage the ear drum itself, which may cause hearing loss which could be permanent. The NHS recommends microsuction as the preferred and safest approach for ear clearance
